How do I Choose Boxing Gloves?
- Your gloves should not slip off when boxing.
- They should not feel too tight. As if they are cutting off the circulation or restricting you.
- The gloves should not feel too bulky.
- Your gloves should fit over your hands.
- Your gloves should have good ventilation.
- They should be providing good support for your wrist and knuckles.
- If your gloves have a velcro strap, you should make sure it is long-lasting.
What Oz Boxing Gloves Should I Use?
Read the chart below to help you figure out what boxing gloves will be right for you:
4 oz For children aged 4 to 5 years old.
6 oz For children aged 5 to 7 years old.
8 oz For children aged 7 to early teens.
10 oz Thinly padded glove, ideal for light pad work.
12 oz Slightly more padding, good for pad work & bag work.
14 oz An all-around training glove, good for pad work, bag work and light sparring.
16 oz A protective glove, good for pad work, bag work and hard sparring.
If your glove is too loose make sure to get the next size up and if it is too loose you should get the next size down.
10 oz boxing gloves should be used by:
- Amateur boxers that are competing in the welterweight division or lower.
- Women in the 50 to 60kg weight category.
- Men in the 51 to 63kg weight category.
12 oz gloves should be used by:
- Women in the 60 to 70kg weight category.
- Men in the 64 to 74kg weight category.
14 oz gloves are suitable for:
- Sparring,
- Training.
- Hitting focus pads.
- Getting used to heavyweight,
16 oz gloves should be used by:
- Older fighters.
- Heavyweight boxers.
